About About Ballroom Dancing Competitions – Faq

Betty asks…
Does it seem like there are a lot of Russians in ballroom dance competitions?
How did this come about since the former Soviet Union thought that most ballroom dancing was “decadent?”
At least based on what I see on the televised competitions on PBS? Dancing with the Stars of course is considerably more diverse.
Customer Service answers:
Same reason the ballet is popular. Dance is very popular in eastern European culture

William asks…
Ballroom dancing for kids?
I’m 14, and I recently saw a show called “dancing tweens” on tlc and now I’m interested in ballroom dancing competitions. I’ve done gymnastics and cheerleading, so I have a little bit of experience in dancing, but I was wondering if there are any places in maine that teaches ballroom to kids my age. but i don’t just want to get lessons i want to see about competing. thanks
Customer Service answers:
There are several:
maine ballroom
american ballroom dance academy
maplewood dance center
rockland maine ballroom dance lessons (this one seems the best to me)
once you pick a studio, i would suggest taking private lessons along with recommended group classes. The last one seems best for competition, but i’m fairly sure they all have opportunities. Your instructor should be able to find some for you either way.
Good luck
