Mary asks…

Ballroom Dance Teacher, Good career Choice?

I am 17 years old I graduate High School next year and I am a little confused in college and career department. You see I would love to be a dance teacher. I have been in my guidance counselors office many times because He along with my parents say think that it is a horrible career choice. The reason I would like to be a ballroom dance teacher is because I LOVE everything about it! It has been my dream job since I was 6 years old. I just don’t understand why my parents and guidance counsel are so against me becoming a dance teacher! Maybe it has something to do with me taking a year off before college but I do plan to go to college as soon as I get enough money for college. But I feel like if I don’t become a dance teacher what should I do? I can’t see myself doing anything else. I want to be a dance teacher more then words can describe!
It’s not like I woke up yesterday and said Mom and Dad I am moving to California next year to teach dance. I have put a lot of thought to this and it’s not like I would be there alone. My best friend wants the same exact thing. Her mother thinks it’s the greatest thing in the world.

So my question to all of you would be,,,
Why do you think my parents are so upset?
Is it a good career choice?
What should I say to them?
Do you think it’s the location?
(they would be in NY and I would be in CA)

I would just like your opinion and your thoughts. Please feel free to share any comments (positive or negate) anything will help!

Thanks for your time!

Customer Service answers:

I have taught Ballroom Dance for over 25 years, and I found it a very rewarding time. However, it is not something that can make a lot of money, unless you are willing to spend a lot of your time. I have a regular full time job so that I can support teaching.
If you want to make a good living, you are going to have to get your own studio, which will require a fairly large investment of money and will not make much, until you are established. You will be able to charge more if you have won a lot of competitions and then you can make good money.
My recommendation is to find a career and start small, may work part time at a local dance studio. Go back to college and get a degree in something. Remember to run your own studio, having a good background in business administration is a very good idea. As you go to college and study, remember that it is working your way to your dream of becoming a dance teacher. I love teaching and find it very rewarding teaching people, but not all students are pleasant people. They are few and far between, if you are lucky.

I’m looking for a former teacher. Does anyone ever heard of Sonny Tabula?

He’s about 50′s, a little dark complexion, a little stout around the belly (maybe not anymore), he used to live in California and he love ballroom dancing.

John asks…

Which girl to I choose? help.?

Girl number 1#
I met this girl named Jules,
She is short (5’2), She has long brown hair, and she’s a swimmer so all the bleach in the pool makes her hair blond. She has the bright hazel eyes and a really dark tan. She has a birthmark on her right shoulder and a gap between her two front teeth. She has dimples on her cheeks. She has really muscular legs and abs, shes slim.

and on the inside, she’s quiet, she loves reading and I guess she’s a Bohemian chick, She wants a big family. She loves art, music and writing. She also does ballroom dancing and loves animals. She always talks about moving to the BIG CITY NYC. But she’s kinda prude too.

Girl number 2#
Her name is Hayley, She’s really skinny, tall, platinum blond hair, she’s a cheer leader, she has a long nose, but big breasts, she’s kinda soft looking though, she’s got some acne..

and on the inside, she’s ditsy, I know she’s easy, she is very loud and outgoing. She loves shopping, and living in California. She likes going to the beach and partying. She’s very materialistic and wants me by her side all the time..

i am soo confused, which one do I ask out?

Also….I’m in a band; We play alot in our town.

It’s so weird because Hayley is crazy about it, flashes us sometimes, screams and wants to take me out with her friends after our concerts. She wants me to hold her all the time and she kisses me on the cheek too.

but Jules will sit and listen, then later I’ll ask her what she thought and she’ll tell me it sounds like ‘noise’, but I know she likes it, because she has a small little smile on. It’s like does it on purpose.
