David asks…
How does this sound? Opinion please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
This is an incomplete story I wrote just wanted to know what people thought of what I had so far. It’s set in a made up regency-ish world full of fairy tale and nursery rhymes characters. This is the part where “Goergy Porgy” tried to kiss Anissa, who lives with the “Little Old Lady that lived in a shoe”. In the end Anissa is found to be the daughter of a fairy tale character. I know it still needs polishing. Just wrote today, had to get it out of my mind before I lost it.
Duke Georgy Porgy’s right hand was held behind his back by a girl with such a beautiful face that her want of propriety and lack of decorum was often forgiven by her male suitors of high rank. Her ill behavior was considered abominable for a girl of unknown parentage and one known for having not a sixpence to scratch with. It was frequently said from the mouths of some persons or another that, ” It’s quite a shock indeed how Miss Anissa, a girl without fortune, should think herself so much above marrying a man of good birth and breeding. In the small country parish in which she lived, she was known as “The Foundling”. As a child of only 7 years old Anissa found herself, laying upon her back in the middle of the woods, as lost as her memory of her past. She was later found on the doorstep of an orphanage owned by Mrs. Mayanne Ward, which was conveniently settled inside a large shoe. Anissa, now a girl of 15 was of a suitable age for marriage. Having just been introduced into society a twelfth month ago, it wasn’t a surprise that she lost more suitors than a child loses teeth. Her particular friend and fellow orphan Hannah, a great beauty more so than former, for a girl with milky skin, sky blue eyes and hair as golden as the sun, was more beautiful than one with chocolate brown hair, blue green eyes and brown skin, was all astonishment when ascertained from the ballroom window of Anissa’s public display of impolite manners. Hannah living her dancing partner unawares, ran out onto the balcony in great rapidity to stop Anissa from ruining her chances of what one would call a “convenient marriage”. She was meet with screams of agony as Duke Georgy Porgy with a grimace on his handsome face, knelt down on his knees, screeching “Uncle!” expressing his sad defeat.
Customer Service answers:
Your writing style is amazing, however, I’m not into stories that take place in the past. But you do use nice descriptive words.
“She was meet with screams of agony as Duke Georgy Porgy with a grimace on his handsome face, knelt down on his knees, screeching “Uncle!” expressing his sad defeat.”
It should be “met”, not “meet”.

Mandy asks…
Does my character sound like a “Mary Sue”?
This is a part of story I wrote just wanted to know what people thought of what I had so far. Someone told my my character “Anissa” is a Mary Sue. It’s set in a made up regency-ish type world full of fairy tale and nursery rhymes characters. This is the part where “Georgy Porgy” tried to kiss Anissa, who lives with the “Little Old Lady that lived in a shoe”. In the end Anissa is found to be the daughter of a fairy tale character. I know it still needs polishing.
Duke Georgy Porgy’s right hand was held behind his back by a girl with such a beautiful face that her want of propriety and lack of decorum was often forgiven by her male suitors of high rank. Her ill behavior was considered abominable for a girl of unknown parentage and having not a sixpence to scratch with. It was frequently said from the mouths of some persons or another that, ” It’s quite a shock indeed how Miss Anissa, a girl without fortune, should think herself so much above marrying a man of good birth and breeding.”
Her particular friend and fellow orphan Hannah, a great beauty more so than the former, for a girl so with white skin, was more beautiful than one so brown, was all astonishment when ascertained from the ballroom window of Anissa’s public display of impolite manners.
Hannah leaving her dancing partner unawares, ran out onto the balcony in great rapidity to stop Anissa from ruining her chances of what one would call a “convenient marriage”. She was met with screams of agony as the Duke with a grimace on his handsome face, knelt down on his knees, screeching “Uncle!” expressing his sad defeat. Hannah ran up to the Duke’s torturer in an attempt to persuade her to release him of her hold.
“Come on, say again for me.” Anissa demanded.
“Oh how odious you are Nissa!”,screamed Hannah in outrage. ”His pantaloons, look how dirty they are.”
“Me, odious?” snapped Anissa in shocked tones, starring at her friend.
She let go of his arm and ushered Hannah away from what became a scene crowded with half the ball room dancers. ”That……that cad needs to keep his smackers to himself. I knew he would try something, the looby.”
She folded her arms to her chest as Hannah began to scold her with an evil look in her eyes. ”You must know that my connection with you only makes my situation worst. We don’t have relatives to provide us with a fortune once we come of age.” Her pleads caught Anissa by surprise. It sadden her to think that her rash actions could cause her best friend to lose out on an opportunity of making a match she so desperately needed. Her heart turned to pudding whenever she was around Hannah. She was a girl of a sweet disposition and gentle, polite manners.
“I tried Hannah. I really did. I can’t stand the sight of him.”
“We must marry. How else are we to make our fortunes?” Hannah ask bitterly.
“He’s an accomplished flirt and all pudding and pie. He was just wooing Mary a fortnight ago.”
Before Hannah could utter a reply, she was interrupted by Georgy’s thunderous words. ”Who do you think you are, you chit? he asked, rubbing his sore arm as he walked towards them. The crowd spilling out onto the balcony grow larger as the confrontation become known to them. “No man would want you after such an uncivil display. You should be all happiness to have a man of my rank offer for you.” Anger filled Anissa’s whole being and it escaped once she spoke in a tone of dismay.
“You’re a revolting rake that likes to kiss the girls and make them cry. Not me though, you make me want to puke.” These words inspired a gasp from the crowed and awe shown in their observing eyes.
“You have nothing to recommend you but a pretty face Anissa. Your bold temper …”, he was cut off by a sharp reply from Anissa, “And you have nothing to recommend you but an obsession for females. I dare say, one of these days your lips will fall off.”
Georgy’s countenance changed from one of anger to one of deep mortification. All the while Hannah stood thunderstruck looking from one to the other with overwhelming dread. “How could you say such an unpleasant thing.?” exclaimed Hannah.
