About Ballroom Dancing – Faq

James asks…
What do you think about ballroom dancing nowadays?
I can’t dance to save my life, plain and simple. Or maybe I just allow myself to believe that. I once embarrassed myself in elementary school at the prom and never danced again. My girlfriend on the other hand, loves to dance. Mostly the bump n grind type of stuff, but also slow dancing. I never want to go on the dance floor with her because she wants to push me to do dances and stuff that I never tried before where people look at me funny and it gets her kinda sad that I don’t want to dance. Now, she wants to go to the homecoming dance at my college and I’ve been secretly taking ballroom dancing classes that are being offered here. I know it’s not the same as grinding on each other and everything but I figure there will be at least one slow song to dance too. But I also wanted to know what people think about ballroom dancing nowadays. Is it enjoyable still, and do you think my girlfriend will be happy to see that I’m finally not being a wall flower and actually pulling her to dance?
Customer Service answers:
Well, you asked a ballroom dancer. I dance almost every day, and I can’t imagine my life without it. I dance Latin ballroom as well.
When I was younger and didn’t dance ballroom I found it very attractive if a guy knew the “real” way to slow dance. I think she will be pleasantly surprised. But be careful here – don’t push her, she might be just as intimidated with ballroom as you were with the whole dancing thing.
I used to be doing OK at clubs in terms of dancing before I started ballroom. Not bad, but not great either. Now if I go to a club I have to make sure I use only 10% of my range of movement or else people will be staring at me.

Richard asks…
What do you think about my ballroom dancing situation?
I want to begin ballroom dancing, and hopefully take it serious enough to begin dancing competitively. I am 16 and I have no dancing experience. The nearest class to me is 1 hour and 45 minutes away both ways and is $40 an hour. Do you think it is worth my time and money to take these classes? Or should i just wait until I go to college and take classes there?
Customer Service answers:
Wow thats expensive, the main thing is if you passionate about ballroom dancing then I recommend that you do it. I take classes at my college and its only about 20 bucks for a semester of two hour lessons once a week, but private lessons will be more one on one and you most likely will learn faster. I would check out any Junior colleges in your area, sometimes the dance instructors are really good, plus it may be closer and less expensive.
BTW I’m 19 and have been ballroom dancing since i was 17 with no experience, now I am certainly better than when I started. So if your passionate then I say you do it.

Robert asks…
As a Catholic, are ballroom dancing partners sometimes too close for good morals?
As a Catholic, are ballroom dancing partners sometimes too close for good morals?
I am the lady, sometimes, I do not know who will dance too close until it happens, and I do not want to be a source of temptation to others. Before I dance with a lot of people when I go ballroom dancing and that is the tradition that they change partners every dance. In that way I learn and practice different styles.
Customer Service answers:
I believe ballroom dancing TEACHES good morals! Where else will a young man learn to treat a young lady with respect? Where else will a young lady learn to trust her partner knowing there is no threat to her dignity? Morals are in your heart and in your mind. Check out the movie “Take the Lead”. It has a lot to say on this very subject and is a fantastic mivie to boot. And hey, do you know why baptists don’t make love standing up? It’s too much like dancing!
