About Ballroom Dancing – Faq

Joseph asks…
How much ballroom dancing experience do you need to compete well?
How long on average should you take ballroom dancing lessons before you are confident enough/good enough to compete at an amateur level? I know it can take years and years to get really good, but what about very basic competitions?
Customer Service answers:
A lot of this has to do with talent and practice. Some of the best people I’ve seen dancing at the amateur level (in the National Championships) have only been doing it for 4+ years, but I don’t know if I’ve seen anyone compete at that level with less than 4 years experience. Of course, you could get there in 2-3 years if you’re practicing a lot, you’ve got a good partner and teacher, and if you’re naturally good at it. And it helps if it’s not a big competition (like Nationals).
Good luck!

Laura asks…
What kind of ballroom dancing involves spinning a lot?
Isn’t there a type of ballroom dancing that involves both figures spinning around together? I think it’s more of a gothic/victorian era style, very elegant and formal.
Customer Service answers:
Sounds like waltzing.

Steven asks…
What shoes should I wear for ballroom dancing classes?
I’ve been dancing for a long time and I’ve finally decided to take up ballroom dancing, but I don’t know what shoes to wear. I have character shoes, but I know that they do have shoes specifically for ballroom. Should I invest in a pair, or are my character shoes fine? Please let me know! Thanks in advance!
Customer Service answers:
It is up to your teacher, really. And how the school is protective of its floors.
If you will have an absolute beginner as a partner, and you are learning ballroom dancing, you might pick up steel toe shoes. LOL.
