About How To Ballroom Dance Steps – Faq

Thomas asks…

what is the dance move called in ballroom samba where the girl shuffles backwards?

im going to do a samba routine an i want to learn as much dance steps as i can before i go to the choreographer an waste time an money learning with him. so what is that dance move called in ballroom samba when the girl does a backwards shuffle thing with her feet and how do I do it? i would be very grateful if these questions were answered :)

Customer Service answers:

The name of that step is “batucada” You really have to have full control of your hip motion and core to be able to do it properly. The name comes from a substyle of samba and refers to an African influenced Brazilian percussive style.

Joseph asks…

I forget steps and make mistakes a lot?

I want to learn ballroom dancing so that I can dance with my boyfriend. He is trying to teach me and he has been patient, but I wonder for how long? I worry that he will start to get annoyed because we go over and over dance steps and I will get it down pat after several tries, but then when we come back later to practice even the simpler dances, I forget steps and make mistakes. How do I remedy this? Why can’t I just get it? Does it just take lots and lots of practice?

Customer Service answers:

You are trying to “remember” with your mind. One does not dance with ones mind. Teach your body and it will remember. Thinking gets in the way of dancing.

David asks…

Does it bug you at a dance/wedding when a couple does ballroom-type dancing while others are dancing normally?

I don’t mean that they’re taking up the whole floor and getting in everyone’s way doing lifts and fancy steps…just that they look a bit professional and know how to do some specific dance steps.
I’m asking as a person who has taken some dance lessons and will be attending a colleague’s wedding next month. Definitely not jealous…I love watching others dance ballroom/latin steps in any situation as long as they’re not impinging on other dancers.

Customer Service answers:

No that doesn’t bother me. Why take dance lesson if you are never allowed to show them off?? As long as they aren’t hogging the dance floor, who cares?? Sounds like a jealousy thing to me. I usually admire these people and let them enjoy themselves.
